About the Event

Do you wish you'd know more about micro-vineyards and looking after your vine? This workshop is perfect if you have table or wine grapes in your garden or bought a property with an established or old vineyard and you wonder where to start! If you also are an amateur winemaker, we've got you covered!

We purchased a rural property in Portugal some years ago. It came with a dying vineyard. We took on the challenge of caring for the vine ourselves, under the guidance of an oenologist. We settled for traditional, totally organic and biodynamic management of the grapes with low to non-mechanised approaches.

The rest is history. Our vineyard is stunning.

Our workshops will provide helpful tips and information about pre and post-harvest management of your vine and winemaking, such as pruning, managing your canopy, preventing and treating diseases, harvesting, crushing the grape, and more!

We follow the plant and the land's lifecycle and organise various workshops throughout the year. Each event builds on the previous one and gives you practical knowledge and tips on caring for particular aspects of your land and vine. As you develop your expertise in a structured way, you'll soon be able to manage all aspects of caring for your vine! This is our 3rd out of 6 yearly workshops.

Topics covered:  we will discuss May/June/July activities and review March/April ones (as discussed in a previous workshop)

Getting rid of parasitic plants with griffage (tillage)

Cutting the suckers (pampres)  how and why of this essential activity

Cutting your tall grass intra-row, controlling rising humidity and sicknesses

When the weather forecast is your best friend.

Accolage (tying), rognage (trimming) and topping to control the vigour of your vine

Encouraging more substantial grape production.

Illness control. This topic was discussed in-depth in a previous workshop: it is a regular activity carried through the year, with a review of interventions against mildew and other illnesses. Includes a review of preparation and application of treatments, biological, organic and conventional fungus, pest and disease control methods

This event repeats over 2 days: Friday 27 and Saturday 28 of June. Please pick your day and send us a message via our site contact form or email: pascale@casadomoinhoretreat.com.

You can also organise your private workshop for another day. If you travel from afar, why not spend the night in one of our B&B rooms? Please get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.

This event takes place outdoors/indoors. Please bring along: your masks, comfortable clothing, gardening gloves, and hiking boots. You may also need a bottle of water, a hat and sunscreen, as we anticipate hot weather.

We'll provide light refreshments.
